This time last year I embarked on a journey I had waited a very long time for.

Qualifying in the middle of 2020 felt like terrible timing, plans I had made pre-covid felt like they were upside down with all the restrictions and changes. Hardly the time to launch a business and put into practice my new skills (which were pretty basic at this point). But I used the time to take advantage of what was available, lots of online content where experienced nail techs were sharing tips and advice.

Then in 2022 I found Marina and knew instantly I wanted to train in person with her, nothing else compared and I knew I wouldn’t get to where I wanted to without some specialised training. I didn’t know then that there were big waits, but I understood why so I waited. Fast forward to September 30th 2023, I had fallen that day and (I didn’t know it then) broken my shoulder. The same day the long awaited message came - I could have a date for a 1-2-1. Lucky I didn’t know my shoulder was broken (I didn’t got to hospital until the following day 🫠) or I might have said I couldn’t, but I picked a date as far away as was on offer, hoped it would be ok and fate was sealed. On 30th November 2023 I set off for London, newly out of my shoulder sling and hoping to goodness I could manage.

What followed was some of the best two days of my nail journey, I was in awe of Marina’s technique, her teaching, skill level and also her kindness to me. The gold manicure technique I learnt was everything I had wanted to know, and gave me the chance to offer to my clients the level of care I aspired to.

A year on I’m still learning and practicing but I am forever grateful for this time so it felt right to mark it and share a bit about my journey too.

Hard gel but make it natural 🫧

No bulk, only natural looking but super strong nails. If you saw my stories you would know I had to reinforce my left index finger with acrygel after smashing my hand into a wall and ripping the old hard gel clean off. This took some layers of my nail with it and my nail bed was very bruised and sore.

I love working with hard gel, it’s always been a passion of mine to master and understand the advanced techniques such as reinforcing the nail and how to protect them. Being able to use a range of products allows for all eventualities to be solvable. My own nails are naturally thin and problematic and without hard products I would not be able to have them this length.
